Abstract

833,039. Discharging liquids by gaseous pressure. DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH Inc. April 11, 1957 [April 12, 1956], No. 11888/57. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XXIX] A discharge valve mechanism, for use within an opening 10 in the top wall of a container for dispensing substances under gaseous pressure, comprises a rigid tubular discharge spout 22, formed with lateral passages 25 adjacent a valve head 24, surrounded by an elastic tubular seal 14 comprising an enlarged body portion 15 terminating in a valve seating face 16, a sleeve portion 13 extending outwardly through the opening 10 and surrounding the stem 22, a flexible flange 19 maintained sealedly against the top wall by gas pressure, and an annular dip-tube retaining groove 17 with a depending sealing skirt 18. The head is urged to the closed position by a volute compression spring 21 abutting the top wall of the container and a shoulder 251 on the valve stem. Actuation is by pressing either downward or sideward a discharge cap 42 comprising a moulded plastic dome 34 having a collar portion 37 with a flow passage leading to a sideward projecting nozzle 40 engaging the end of the discharge spout. The upper end of a flexible dip tube 32 is attached to the seal 14 by a rigid nipple 28 engaging the retaining groove 17.
