Abstract

508,734. Spray-producers. HAGGIS, B. March 30, 1938, No. 9786. [Glass 69 (iii)] In an air pressure sprayer of the kind in which air cuts in the surface of the liquid to spray and to force it up a dip tube to an atomizing nozzle, means are provided for interrupting the spray at will by controlling the air pressure acting on the liquid surface without opening or closing the jet orifice, and means are also provided for setting the size of the jet orifice to any desired value. The barrel 1 of a'spray gun is provided with a socket 1a communicating with an air supply and carries a handle 2 and liquid vessel 4 to which air is supplied through a passage 18. A vent 17 is closed by a spring- pressed needle valve 20 controlled by a trigger 22 to release pressure in the vessel 4 and thus stop the spray. The compressed air is led into the vessel 4 through a coiled pipe 16. Liquid is ejected through the dip tube 12 to a nozzle 13a mounted on a block 8 and regulated by a needle valve 9 which is locked in position by a nut 10. The nozzle 13a forms part of a cup 13, the outer part 13b of which may be rotated to regulate the size of the orifice, the outer rim 15 being graduated. Atomizing air passes around the block 5 to the atomizing nozzle.
