Abstract

692,470. Spray guns. SCHONHOLZER, W. March, 7. 1952 [March 13, 1951], No. 6038/52. Class 69(iii) In a spray gun for spraying semi-fluid material such as paint, varnish or oil, with or without mixtures of fibres &c. supplied under pressure to a bore 12, while compressed air is supplied from a duct 33 the nozzle has three concentric discharge openings, an inner opening 50, an intermediate opening between 9 and 10 and an outer opening 45. The air supply is regulated by a trigger 18 which retracts a hollow needle 11 and also by a cock plug 21 which can be adjusted to one of three positions 120 degrees apart whereby the air is controllably delivered to one or other of the discharge openings, to give the desired kind of coating without formation of a mist. The compressed air may thus be directed to flow either through the inner opening 50, or through the outer annular discharge opening 45 or through both 45 and 50, the paint &c. coming from a third opening between 9 and 10 when 10 is retracted. When the cock plug 21 is rotated by its handwheel 29 to the position Fig. 4a to discharge air through 45 only, normal spraying is obtained, if positioned to discharge air through both 45 and 50 a fine atomization of paint &c. is produced and if through 50 only the atomization is only slight and is used for painting e.g. buildings without dispersion. The nozzle 6, its mouthpiece 9 and the insert 4 can be exchanged for similar parts to suit other material to be sprayed. The quantity of paint &c. delivered from between 9 and 10 is regulated as desired by the trigger retraction of the needle 11. A slide valve or rotary valve could be provided instead of the rotatable cock 21.
