Abstract

923,475. Spray-producers. BERGER, JENSON & NICHOLSON Ltd. Jan. 11, 1961 [Jan. 21, 1960], No. 1247/61. Class 69 (3). In order to provide a spatter coating by two liquids applied simultaneously to a surface, the liquids are separately fed to a gun 16 and emitted from the outlet 43 of a chamber 41 whereupon the two liquids are atomized by air streams from a surrounding array of openings 38 and from additional openings 35. One liquid is supplied to the chamber through a passage 48, Fig. 1, and the other liquid is fed to the bore of a trigger controlled needle valve 45 having a flexible discharge head 44. The needle valve is normally urged forwardly by a spring 47 whereby both liquid outlets are closed, Fig. 7. When the trigger 19 is fully retracted an air valve 25 is opened and the outlet of the head 44 is positioned as shown in Fig. 6, within a converging part of the chamber 41. The two liquids are contained in receptacles 7, 8, Fig. 1, subjected to air pressure from a line 11, a pressure-reducing valve 12 and connections 13, 14. Liquid from the receptacle 7 is fed to the chamber 41 via a hose 53, valve 51 and rigid tube 50, and liquid from the receptacle 8 is supplied to the needle bore via a hose 65, valve 63, rigid tube 61, an elbow fitting 59 and a collar 57, Fig. 2. The line 11 also supplies atomizing air to the gun through a fitting 70 and the air flow is controlled by a further valve 31. A rigid strap 69 connected between the parts gives rigidity to the assembly. In Fig. 10, the needle valve head 44a has opposed flat surfaces 73 and, curved side surfaces 75.
