906,875. Reciprocating pumps. DRACKETT CO. Aug. 28, 1959 [Sept. 9, 1958], No. 29468/59. Class 102 (1). A pump mounted on a cap 12 for attachment to a container has a collar 70 which has a sealing lip 73 engaging the plunger 28 to prevent leakage from the air inlet holes 40, and a surface 76 which is sealingly engaged by a sealing portion 48 on the discharge head 29 when the plunger is in the depressed and immobilised position, where it is held by friction between the portion 48 and surface 76; in addition a cap 86 can be screwed on to the collar 70 to hold the plunger in the depressed position and prevent leakage. The conical surface 92 on the cap 86 co-operates with similar conical surfaces presented by annular surface 57<SP>1</SP> surrounding the outlet 62 and the outer surface of a rib 94. In the depressed position a portion 34 on the plunger engages and holds closed the valve 22 which at the same time closes the plunger passage 36. In a modification the end 34 has a skirt portion which engages an elongated bore above the ball valve. The valve housing has internal valve guide ribs 24 and detents 26 for retaining the ball; the pump being formed of plastic material, the ball may be forced past the detents 26 during assembly.
