Abstract

885,320. Spray-producers. SOC. TECHNIQUE DE PULVERISATION. Jan. 4, 1960 [Oct. 17, 1959; Oct. 19, 1959], No. 283/60. Class 69 (3). A sprayer comprises a cylindrical body 1 attached to the neck of a container of liquid, e.g. perfume, to be sprayed, not shown, and a piston assembly 2, 4, 7 is slidable within a chamber 9 below a wall 8, and is urged outwardly by a spring 26. The part 4 comprises a cylindrical receptacle for gas under pressure which is normally sealed by a ball 22 urged by gas pressure against an aperture 24. Passages 10, 11 in the wall 8 lead to a spray nozzle 12. Valve shanks 14, 19 with valve heads 15, 16 and 20 and a spring 27 are arranged so that in the non- spraying position the end of the opening 10 communicating with the liquid container is closed, its other end open, and a central passage in a boss 3 is closed, all as indicated in Fig. 1. To effect spraying, the piston assembly is depressed whereupon firstly the valve head 15 leaves opening 10 to allow some air from chamber 9 to enter the liquid container; the other end of this opening is then closed by valve head 16 and liquid passes to the passages 10, 11 ; further movement of the piston assembly causes the ball 22 to be moved from its seat by the end of the valve shank 19, and compressed gas flows into the chamber 9 and through the nozzle 12 to provide the spray. When empty the receptacle 4 may be unscrewed from the boss 3 and replaced by a fresh one. In the modification of Fig. 2 the gas receptacle is screwed on to a boss 33 which extends through an end cap 32 and acts upon a plate 31 which, when the receptacle is depressed, is moved away from the piston 7, 30 which remains adjacent the cap. Passages 34-36 are provided in the valve shank 19 and provide a communication between the receptacle and chamber 9 when the receptacle is sufficiently depressed to unseat the ball 22. When the receptacle is exhausted it may be replaced by an auxiliary member 42, Fig. 4, which is applied to the boss 33 and the motor then operated to provide a limited spraying action.
