922,310. Spraying measured quantities. SOCIETE TECHNIQUE DE PULVERISATION. Nov. 7, 1960 [Nov. 10, 1959], No. 38239/60. Class 69 (3). A liquid sprayer comprises a body 1 carrying a liquid container 2 and a compressed-air reservoir 11 and having a Venturi-type spray nozzle 9 connectable to the container 2, and a spring-loaded plunger 6 slidable in a bore 4 in the body 1 and having a necked portion defining with the bore 4 an annular metering chamber 7 which normally communicates via a passage 10 with the reservoir 11 whereby it is filled with compressed air, the plunger being operable manually to move the chamber 7 out of communication with the reservoir 11 and into communication, via a passage 8, with the nozzle 9 to discharge the air in chamber 7 therethrough so that a metered quantity of liquid spray is dispensed. As shown, the plunger 6 is rotatable in the bore 4 between the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 for metered spray delivery, to a position where a longitudinal groove 20 in the plunger extending from the chamber 7 is brought into alignment with the passage 10 so that on depression of the plunger to spraying position the reservoir 11 is maintained in communication with the chamber 7 and a continuous spray results for as long as the plunger is depressed. Retention of the plunger in the desired angular position is effected by a disc 16 keyed to the finger-end of the plunger and secured to the body 1 by a screw 18 located in an arcuate slot 19 of the disc, an arrow 21 on the disc co-operating with index marks C and D on the body 1 to indicate respectively the continuous and metered positions of the plunger. For use with the inverted liquid container 2 shown in Fig. 1, the plunger 6 is extended integrally to terminate in a head 13 which normally seals the container 2 from the passage 12 in the body 1 which leads to the nozzle 9, the head 13 being unseated immediately on depression of the plunger. For use with an upright container employing the usual dipper tube, the valve head 13 may be carried on a separate spindle slidably displaceable in an axial bore of the plunger against the action of a weak spring to provide a lost-motion connection with the plunger.
