Abstract

1279797 Atomizer CHAMPION SPARK PLUG CO 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 20765/71 Heading B2F [Also in Divisions A5 and F1] Apparatus for measuring and atomizing a predetermined quantity of liquid comprises an atomizer nozzle 13, means 15 for suppling a flow of compressed gas to the nozzle for atomizing the liquid, a reservoir 11 for the liquid and pump means 20, 21 for measuring and delivering the predetermined quantity of liquid from the reservoir to the nozzle. The pump is operated by squeezing knurled cap 17 towards the body 12 which drives piston 20, against the face of spring 37, into cylinder 21 and forces the predetermined quantity of liquid along tube 29 to nozzle 13. Release of the cap allows spring 37 to return piston 20 to the unactuated position. Relief air opening 16 allows escape of compressed gas to air and can be covered by a finger in use to increase the pressure of gas atomizing the liquid. The travel of the piston and thus the quantity of liquid supplied can be varied by turning knurled cap 17. Calibration markings are provided to indicate the amount of liquid atomized during each stroke. The apparatus may be used to atomize medicaments.
