Abstract

1305376 Drop delivering apparatus WELLCOME FOUNDATION Ltd 30 Jan 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 5655/69 Heading B8N [Also in Divisions B1 and F1] Calibrated liquid delivery devices such as burettes, pipettes or syringes are operated by a method comprising after delivery of liquid through the nozzle of the delivery device, discharging a droplet of liquid from the tip of the nozzle by directing a puff of gas symmetrically around and past the tip in the direction of delivery of liquid through the nozzle. A calibrated liquid delivery device which may be used as above or for stirring a liquid into which the delivery nozzle projects comprises a calibrated reservoir for the liquid, the reservoir terminating in a nozzle, and a sleeve coaxially aligned around the nozzle, the sleeve having an inlet for gas and an outlet for outflow of gas symmetrically around the tip of the nozzle. The gas may be supplied by a hand-operated bulb or syringe. The inlet to the sleeve may be a side-tube having a press-button valve.
