Abstract
1330994 Sample distributor J GUIGAN 7 Jan 1972 [7 Jan 1971 24 Feb 1971] 926/72 Heading B1X A distributor for delivering calibrated quantities of liquid from a reservoir to a set of containers comprises a respective capillary tube for each container formed with a constriction and connected at a first end to atmosphere and to means for introducing liquid from the reservoir to the capillary tubes at least as far as the constrictions therein, each constriction defining with the first end of the capillary tube a calibrated volume. In the embodiment shown a conduit 2 with a flange 3 is pushed downwards into liquid in test-tube 1. Liquid is forced upwards into spherical chamber 5 having orifices 6 to each of which is connected a capillary tube 9 having a constriction 10. Liquid is drawn up to the constrictions by capillary effect. The tube I is then lowered, chamber 5 empties and any liquid driven past the constriction runs back so that each capillary contains a known volume of liquid between the end attached to orifice 6 and the constriction. The device is then moved downwards so that the other ends of the capillaries enter the receivers 30, then rotated so that the liquid is ejected from the capilants by cenrifugal force.
