Abstract

A sprayer head for dispensing from a container a metered volume of a pressurized liquid in the form of a spray or as a foam comprises a metering chamber 7 having axially movable therein a plunger 2 which has one end in the form of a hollow stem 1 having a port 5 and the other end slidable against a spring 3 in a cylinder 4 communicating with the metering chamber and also through a bore 9 with the outlet 10 of the sprayer head, the arrangement being such that, when the plunger is moved into the cylinder against the pressure of the spring, the passage of liquid from the cylinder to the bore is prevented and the metering chamber may be filled with liquid through the stem and port 5. The metering chamber 7 is defined by means of a sleeve 12 closed by a cap 11, the sleeve being covered by a casing 17. In operation, when the spraying head is depressed, the plunger 2 enters into the cylinder 4 thereby cutting off communication between the metering chamber and outlet 10 the port 5 then communicating with the metering chamber and the interior of the container. Continued movement downwardly of the head causes the stem to open the normal valve within the container and thereby permit liquid to enter slots 14 in the end of the hollow stem and, via port 5, fill the measuring chamber. Upon release of the head, the spring 3 returns the latter to the position shown and thereby dispenses the measured quantity in the chamber 7. In a modification for dispensing foam, the end of the plunger entering the cylinder 4 is provided with grooves, the dip tube 8 entering the cylinder being omitted.
