Abstract

1,036,025. Container closures. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. June 5, 1964 [June 7, 1963], No. 23402/64. Heading B8T. [Also in Division B2] A device adapted to discharge liquid antiseptic from a collapsible container in spray, drop or jet form comprises a stopper or valve holding member 17, Fig. 8, provided with an internal cylindrical bore 32 and an outlet orifice 21, and a hollow valve member 18 having a cylindrical outer surface arranged to fit tightly within said bore and seal off said orifice when in the closed position, said valve member comprising a cylindrical outer wall 37 and an inner wall which together define a spray chamber 39 and a flow chamber 41. A spray orifice 51, Fig. 7, and a flow or jet orifice 53 connect the said outer surface with the upper portion 49 of the spray chamber and the flow chamber 41 respectively. A drop orifice 54 formed by a circumferentially extending recess is located between the spray and jet orifices and a handle 22 is provided to either shut off the valve or position one of the said orifices in alignment with the outlet 21. The handle is indexed by means 24, 25. Grooves 52, Fig. 7, connect the bore 32 with the spray chamber portion 49 so that when the spray orifice 51 is exposed and the container body compressed, antiseptic is forced up a tube 46 and air is forced up the said grooves into said portion 49 so as to atomize the liquid.
