Abstract

1298491 Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure SCHERICO Ltd 4 May 1970 [5 May 1969] 21368/70 Heading F1R [Also in Division B1] A dispenser for foam comprises a container 12 for foamable liquid 48, a porous foam-forming element 32, a nozzle 34 and a check-valve 46 allowing gas to pass only inwards and defining a separate flow-path from that of the outgoing foam. The container 12 is flexible and resilient and when it is squeezed the flap valve 42 closes, foam forming liquid passes up the dip tube 24 and mixes in passageway 28 with air forced up through the passageways 26 to form a spray which passes through aperture 30 and impinges on porous element 32 whereby a foam is generated. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (see also Figs. 4 and 6-10 (not shown)) the check-valve is a ballvalve 74, the foam forming element is a wire mesh 62 and the dispensing nozzle is integral with a cap 54 which can be rotated to put the aperture 70 and chamber 58 out of register with the ball-valve and foam forming element respectively. Air passes up slots 66 in a bore 69 which receives the dip tube 68 and mingles with liquid from the dip tube to form a spray as before. Preferred dimensions for the various passageways are given. The apparatus is especially suitable for use in conjunction with a nozzle up to about 30 cm long to introduce a foamed medicament into a body cavity.
