Abstract

925,278. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. REVION Inc. June 19, 1961 [June 20, 1960], No. 22014/61. Class 102(2). In an aerosol container for dispensing waterbased liquids immiscible with the liquefied gas propellant, e.g. isobutane, a " non-spitting " spray or mist is formed by entraining gaseous propellant with a liquid stream or by entraining liquid with a gas stream. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a constriction 42 is provided in the dip tube 32 to cause a pressure drop and an orifice 44 is provided in the dip tube wall ajacent the constriction and above the liquid level, whereby propellant gas mixes with the liquid in the dip tube during discharge. The constriction may be formed by a perforated plate 40, as shown, or by " pinching in " the tube or by a plug of glass wool. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the dip tube is U-shaped with the constriction located at the bottom of the container so that liquid enters the side orifice 44 to mix with a gas stream. In both embodiments the container may be operated in either an upright or an inverted position.
