Class 47 A dry powder fire extinguisher has a neck ring 4 and a closure cap 17, the neck ring porviding a support 5 for a removable gas cartridge holder, which as described is in the form of dished spider 6, which includes a captive slidable cartridge piercing pin 9 actuable by a plunger 18 separately mounted in the closure cap. The piercing pin 9 is restrained from accidental movement by a rubber &c. ring 11. A tube 16 with an upturned end leads gas discharged from the cartridge to the lower end of the container. The closure cap is fitted with a safety blow-off valve 19.
