Abstract
696,702. Foam fire-extinguisher. JONES & CO. (ENGINEERING), Ltd., S., and PHILLIPS. C. H. March 12, 1952 [March 12, 1951], No. 5935/51. Class 47(ii) In a foam fire-extinguisher comprising an outer container 1 filled with water and an inner container 4 for the foam compound, a seal 8 between a gas cartridge 11 and the foam compound and a seal 9 at the bottom of the container 4 are broken by sliding movement of the cartridge which takes place when a plunger 12 is forced in against a spring 13 to break the cartridge seal. A distance piece 10 is arranged between the seals 8, 9. In the form shown, a piercer 14 on the plunger 12 breaks the cartridge seal and then a shoulder 15 acts to slide the cartridge. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), pivoted dogs on the plunger engage the cartridge to slide it downwards and are then disengaged to allow the piercer to operate. In another form, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cartridge is inverted and forced down on to a hollow piercer.
