979,819. Life saving appliances. DAVIS & McGILL Inc. Aug. 13, 1962, No. 30975/62. Heading B7U. An inflatable life preserver which may be worn on the wrist comprises a housing with a wall dividing it into two compartments (11, 12 in the embodiment of Fig. 4, 61, 62 in that of Fig. 9), one compartment having an open end and a closure member (29 or 67) therefore and receiving a cartridge 14 of compressed gas, a firing pin (26 or 70) within said one compartment in opposed relationship to the cartridge of gas, means (spring 24 or 65) for normally maintaining the pin and cartridge in spaced relation, operating means for causing relative movement between the pin and cartridge to release the gas, sealing means (gasket 30 or 69) for hermetically closing said one compartment when the gas is released from the cartridge, an inflatable container 13 received within the other compartment, a tubular member (18 or 72) providing communication between the compartments, and means 16 for connecting the container 13 to the tubular member to cause the container to be inflated when gas is released from the cartridge. In Fig. 4 the operating means comprises a head 33 operated by a knob 35, and in Fig. 9 it comprises the threaded plug 67. In Fig. 9 a valve 75 is provided in the tubular member 72 for controlling the flow of gas into the container.
