Abstract
1,131,412. Diving apparatus. OCEAN SYSTEMS Inc. 11 Nov., 1965 [12 Nov., 1964], No. 47839/65. Heading B7U. [Also in Divisions A5 and F2] Diving apparatus comprises a breathing device 28, Fig. 2, connected to collapsible input and output reservoirs 24, 40 by flexible hoses 30, 34, a breathing mixture, e.g. oxygen and helium, being periodically forced into the input reservoir 24 by a pump (12), Fig. 1 (not shown), through a flexible hose 26 and a valve 35 within the reservoir, and exhaust gases in the output reservoir 40 being periodically removed therefrom by said pump through a valve 36 within the reservoir, a further flexible hose 42 and a filtering and conditioning unit (10). The valve 35 is arranged to open when the associated reservoir is deflated by the diver inhaling the mixture therein whereas the valve 36 is arranged to open when the associated reservoir is inflated by the diver exhaling. The valve 36 includes a body 310, Fig. 3, which is attached to one wall of the reservoir 24 and carries an immovable looped or racquetshaped member 300, to prevent inward deflection of said wall, in addition to a similar member 304 upon a pivot 306, the latter member being engaged by the opposite wall of the reservoir so as to depress an axially-movable stem 308 on a valve-member (not shown) when the reservoir is deflected, thereby rendering the valve open. The valve is closed by the pressure of the mixture in the hose 26 acting upon said valvemember when the reservoir is inflated, outward movement of the wall adjacent the member 304 being accompanied by similar movement of the latter in response to displacement of the valvemember by the pressure aforesaid. The valve 42 is generally identical to the valve 36 save that it is rendered open by inflation of the associated reservoir. The reservoirs may be incorporated with a diving suit, which may be of the kind described in Specification 1,095,346.
