Abstract

878,530. Fire extinguishing. KERR & CO. (MANCHESTER) Ltd., JOHN. July 20, 1960 [July 21, 1959], No. 24955/59. Class 47. A dry chemical fire extinguisher comprises a reservoir 11 with a neck 11c and an adjacent outlet 19, closure means 13 carrying extinguisher operating means 14 and a gas cylinder 14d, e.g. CO 2 , argon, nitrogen, whereby gas is fed through one or more passages 13d into the annular cavity 16 and via a tube 17 to the remote end of the reservoir 11. The closure means 13 comprises a cap 13a with an inner and outer flange 14c and 13b and carries extinguisher operating means 14 having a plunger 14a which moves axially against spring 14b to puncture the cylinder 14d. Gas pressure is fed through the passages 13d in radially-directed ribs 13c to the annular cavity 16 formed between the reservoir neck and the closure means and passes via a duct in the neck to the tube 17 which is led to the remote end of the reservoir 11, to eject the dry fire extinguishing powder through a tube 18 and an outlet 19.
