Direct gas-pressure apparatus, non-automatic. -In apparatus for ejecting liquid from a container in which a cartridge &c. adapted to be pierced to liberate a compressed or liquified gas is housed in a closed chamber so that it is completely cut off from the liquid, the container is in communication with the atmosphere by a vent and on releasing the gas a passage is automatically opened for the gas to pass to the container and the vent is closed. A head 1 screwed into the neck of the container carries a screwed-on cup 8 for the gas cartridge and has a plunger 12 which passes through a collar 11 and has a piston 15 sliding in the lower part of the bore 10. A cap 21 having apertures 22 and attached to the head 1 by bayonet joints 23, holds the plunger 12 and the piston 15 so that normally a passage 14 is closed and at the same time a flattened portion 19 on the plunger registers with the collar 11 to form a passage which communicates with the container through a passage 13 and with the atmosphere through apertures 20, 22. To use the aparatus the cap 23 is removed so that the plunger 12 is forced up by a spring 15; the plunger is them depressed to pierce the gas cartridge by a point 26. On being released the plunger rises to close the passage 13 to open the passage 14 to the container. A flange 27 on the knob 16 acts as a stop on depressing the plunger. A nut portion 5 is provided to take a spanner &c. The adaption of the capsule described in Specification 213,326, [Class 47 (ii), Fireextinguishing, &c.], to the head is described.
