Abstract

Portable pressure reservoirs.-In a fire-extinguisher of the kind in which liquid is expelled from a container by compressed gas held in a sealed cartridge, and the liquid outlet from the container is provided with a seal, separate puncturing means for the cartridge and the outlet seal are provided, and are simultaneously operable by a single actuating device. As shown, the cartridge 12 is carried in a cradle 32 depending from a sleeve 13 and provided with an adjustable piercer 31. The sleeve is formed with an outlet chamber 39 communicating with a discharge nozzle 37 by a pipe 38. The chamber 39 is sealed from the liquid contents of the extinguisher by a disc 26 held in place by a flanged plug 14 which serves as a closing cap for the extinguisher. A screwed stem 17 with hand-wheel 19 is movable in the plug 14. Slidable through the stem 17 is a piercing plunger 21 formed with an impact head 22 and an abutment 27. and movable through packing 28. In operation, the plunger 21 is forced in by hand or by screwing in the stem 17, so that it pierces the seal 26 and forces the cartridge 12 down upon the piercer 31. Liquid is then forced to the outlet chamber 39 through ports 41 in the plug 14.
