Abstract
331,474. Pyrene Manufacturing Co. Jan. 18, 1929, [Convention date]. Portable pressure reservoirs; chemicals.-In an extinguisher of the gas cartridge type, particularly one charged with a volatile extinguishing medium, such as methyl bromide, the container 10 is provided with a sealing disc 27, which cuts off its contents from the discharge tube 45. A gas cartridge 12 and a piecer 37 for the cartridge are mounted respectively on the outer and inner sides of the sealing disc. A cutting member 38 carried around the neck of the cartridge is adapted to cut away the central portion of the sealing disc. The cartridge is slidably carried within a housing 14 which is screwed to a bushing 13 which forms a filling opening for the container. An extension 31 of the housing engages a member 28 to force the latter into sealing engagement with the disc 27. In use, a plunger 18 is struck to drive the cartidge inwardly. The cutter 38 first destroys the seal 27, and the piercer 37 then punctures the cartridge. The piercer is carried by a frame 35 formed with apertures 36 by which the gas passes into, and the liquid is ejected from, the body of the container. The discharge tube is in two parts 45, 62 connected by a valve housing 48 in which is a spring-pressed valve 53 operable from outside the extinguisher.
