Abstract

Extincteurs; portable pressure reservoirs ; chemicals.-In a fire-extinguisher employing a volatile liquid, such as methyl bromide, the chamber, 1 containing the liquid is hermetically sealed by a diaphragm 3. A sliding or screw-threaded plunger 8 is adapted, when driven inwards, ,first to pierce or destroy the diaphragm 3 and then to break a compressed gas capsule 14 carried by a bracket 13. The discharge hose 6 leads from a second chamber 5 normally isolated from the chamber 1 by the diaphragm 3. The capsule 14 may be replaced by containers for two reacting chemicals, such as aluminium sulphate and sodium carbonate, to which a foam producing reagent, such as quillaia bark, may be added.
