Abstract

943,223. Liquid fuel burners. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. May 11, 1960 [May 11, 1959], No. 16710/60. Heading F4T. A liquid fuel burner comprises a main nozzle 21<SP>1</SP> in which the fuel is atomised by steam and an auxiliary nozzle 1 which is disposed within the main nozzle and in which the fuel is atomized by the pressure of the fuel. The main nozzle 21<SP>1</SP> comprises an annular sprayer plate 24<SP>1</SP> having steam and fuel discharge passages 46<SP>1</SP> and fuel supply passages 53<SP>1</SP>, and an annular terminal member 26<SP>1</SP> having a number of bores 511 leading to an annular channel 52<SP>1</SP>. The sprayer plate 24<SP>1</SP> and terminal member 26<SP>1</SP> are clamped by a cap nut 22<SP>1</SP> against a shoulder on a tube 23<SP>1</SP> and a tube 34<SP>1</SP> is screwed into the terminal member 26<SP>1</SP>. Fuel is supplied to the annular space 35<SP>1</SP> between the two tubes 23<SP>1</SP>, 34<SP>1</SP>, and steam is supplied to the annular space 86 between the tube 34<SP>1</SP> and a further tube 85. The fuel and steam are supplied to passages 88, 89, Fig. 3, leading to the annular spaces 35<SP>1</SP>, 86 by passages 90, 91 in a coupling member 64 clamped to the burner by a screw 65 in a yoke 66 pivoted on the coupling member 64. The auxiliary nozzle 1 comprises a sprayer plate and a distance piece clamped by a cap nut to a tubular nozzle body and definining a frustoconical whirl chamber fed by tangential passages and discharging through an axial orifice. The fuel is supplied to the auxiliary nozzle by a tube 67 which communicates with a passage 92 in a body 70 held to an auxiliary coupling 71 by a screw 72 in an auxiliary yoke 73. The auxiliary nozzle 1, supply tube 67, body 70 and auxiliary coupling 71 are displaceable axially within the inner tube 85 of the steam-atomizing nozzle and are secured in set position by a screw 74 engaging a pin 75 slidable in an aperture in the fixed coupling 64 of the steam-atomizing nozzle. An impeller 95 having vanes is mounted on the end of a tube 94 surrounding the fuel and steam supply tubes. In a modification the auxiliary nozzle is rigidly secured in the central aperture of the annular sprayer plate of the steam atomizing nozzle. Specification 579,591 is referred to.
