Abstract
942,708. Insulators. STEATITE & PORCELAIN PRODUCTS Ltd. April 6, 1962 [April 13, 1961], No. 13354/61. Heading H2C. A high voltage insulator 1 which has a layer of semi-conducting material 8 at or near its surface to reduce radio interference, has a coating of insulating material, in this case the glazing 7 extending over at least part of the. semi-conducting layer, the thickness of this coating being adequate to prevent current flow through-it between the semi-conducting layer and the outer surface of the coating. In the example shown the electrode is constituted by wires 4 in contact with the semi-conductor layer at an area over which the glaze has been removed, but in a further arrangement, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the electrode is a cap cemented to the insulating body or it may be composed entirely of conducting cement. Adequate connection to the semi-conducting material may be provided by the capacitance of the coating. The semi-conducting layer may be of blue titania.
