Abstract

947,319. Insulators. DOULTON & CO. Ltd. Sept. 27, 1961 [Oct. 5, 1960], No. 34202/60. Heading H2C. A post insulator comprising two or more porcelain members mounted in a stack and a metal end cap mounted on an end member, has a conducting or semi-conducting surface over an area of that end member and in electrical connection with the end cap. Porcelain sections 1, 2 and a metal cap 4 are cemented together and the under surface of the top section 2 is fired with a semi-conducting glaze 7 which may terminate at any of the points 8, 9 or 10. The glaze is electrically connected by a rod or strip 12 to the metal cap 4. In an alternative embodiment the top section 2 is completely surrounded by a semi-conducting glaze connected to the metal cap 4 by a conducting or semi-conducting cement 5.
