An insulating element, for a chain insulator designed for D.C. transmission systems, which has a body 1 having a convex non-ridged upper surface and having concentric ribs 5 on its under surface, is characterized by the fact that the surface leakage distance between the metal cap 2 holding the element, and providing a socket 4 for coupling another similar element, and the pin 3, which supports a further element, is at least 3.5 times the " unit spacing "-the distance from the bottom of the pin 3 to the bottom of the socket 4.
