Abstract

1,007,486. Heavy - current switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 20, 1961 [June 28, 1960], No. 22666/60. Heading H2B. In an electric switch in which the contacts are separated inside an insulating part the area of the insulating part exposed to the arc is protected by a layer of refractory insulating particals substantially covering a bonding agent on the area of part. In Fig. 2, a nozzle fixed contact 25 and blast-operated movable contact 26 are housed in an insulator 22 coated with the particles 30 on an epoxy resin-bonding agent. The material may be fused quartz, porcelain, alumina, glass or fused glass and mica material, an essential requirement being that it protects the insulator from ultra-violet and infra-red radiations. Specification 1,007,488 which is divided from this Specification relates to methods of manufacture of insulators coated on internal surfaces with particles of refractory material.
