Abstract

940,223. Pneumatic despatch apparatus. LAMSON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. June 22, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 22641/61. Heading B8A. In a pneumatic tube conveyer system the sending and receiving stations 2, 3, Fig. 1, of similar construction have a compressed air supply through a pipe 5 of large diameter to propel the carrier from the sending station and a reduced supply through a smaller diameter pipe 7 for use when receiving and which forms a cushion of air for retarding the carrier. The pipes 5, 7 are connected to the ends of the pneumatic despatch tube 1 which is provided with exhaust valves 9, 9a near the ends to permit the escape of air. The system is operated through a time delay control relay 21 associated with a push button 22 and indicator lights. In operation, the carrier is placed in a cage 10, Fig. 2, which is raised by a pneumatic cylinder 12 to lift the carrier into the end of the tube 1. A limit switch (not shown) on a door 13 covering the cage 10 prevents operation of the cylinder 12 before the door 13 is closed. A catch mechanism 16, 17 holds the door 13 locked during despatch and is automatically released by the lowering of the cage 10 for release of a despatched carrier.
