Abstract

1,197,422. Pneumatic conveyers. E. V. T. K. LARSEN. 1 April, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 17112/69. Heading B8A. In a pneumatic despatch system having terminal and intermediate stations 3, 4 and 2, pressurized air is supplied to both ends of the transportation tube 1 at points beyond the terminal stations 3, 4 and the selected receiving station is opened to atmosphere so that a despatch cartridge 10 arriving at that station seals off the system air to atmosphere whereupon the cartridge is braked by the balanced air pressure at each end thereof. Each station comprises a box housing into and from which extends the tube 1, a valve 8 for exhausting the box to atmosphere, and a magazine of open sided tube pieces 6 which are rotatable within the box to both align a piece 6 with the tube 1 for receiving the cartridge and thereafter align that piece with a receiving box for the cartridge. The latter rotation of the magazine may be automatically controlled by the arrival of a cartridge in the piece 6. With the valve 8 closed to atmosphere and with a tube piece 6 in line with the tube 1, the station will act as a through station. In a further embodinent, the box housing is dispensed with and tube pieces without openings are provided in the magazine to form a through station when required.
