Abstract

1,005,129. Pneumatic despatch apparatus. UNITED STEEL CO. Ltd. June 22, 1964 [June 20, 1963], No. 24606/63. Heading B8A. In a pneumatic despatch system in which the carriers are driven between terminals by compressed air, an air offtake pipe 9, Fig. 1, is provided in the tube between each terminal 3 and a point near the terminal so that a cushion of air is provided to retard the carrier after passing the branch pipe. A non-return valve 10 is arranged in the pipe 9 so that a return flow is prevented when carriers are despatched from the terminal by the introduction of compressed air through a valve 8 in a supply branch 7. A solenoid-operated valve 13 releases air in front of the carrier when being despatched to the station 3 and remains open until the carrier has been removed. A proximity detector 12 is provided to cut off the air supply as the carrier approaches its destination.
