Abstract

1,245,847. Pneumatic despatch apparatus. SIEMENS A.G. 26 Nov., 1969 [27 Nov., 1968], No. 57764/69. Heading B8A. In a pneumatic shuttle-conveying system, each station may act as a despatch, receipt or through station and is provided with a single slide valve which can be introduced into the internal cross-section of the conveyer tube for the receipt of shuttles, whereby a decelerating cushion of air builds up between the incoming shuttle and the valve. As shown, stations 2, 3 are located in vertical conveyer tube sections 4, 5 and are provided with slide valves 2a, 3a actuated by electromagnets 2b, 3b. The electromagnets and travel contacts 2d, 3d are connected to bi-stable store devices 2c, 3c. As a shuttle approaches station 2, it actuates the contact 2d and thereby causes the slide-valve to be actuated after the passage of the shuttle. The shuttle then falls back and is decelerated by an air cushion as it approaches the slide valve. As a shuttle approaches station 3, it actuates the contact 3d to close the slide valve 3a and a decelerating air cushion is formed between the falling shuttle and the valve. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a station in a single-tube system for alternating operation is provided with a single slide valve and two travel contacts. Both travel contacts are located above the valve, the lower one being adapted to be actuated by shuttles arriving at the station from below and the upper one being adapted to be actuated by shuttles arriving from above.
