Abstract
1423353 Freeze drying apparatus BOC INTERNATIONAL [trading as EDWARDS HIGH VACUUM INTERNATIONAL] 14 June 1973 [19 June 1972] 28540/72 Heading B1B [Also in Divisions F3 and F4] A vacuum lock for use with a freeze drying apparatus comprises a valved connection (70, Fig. 1, not shown) for connection with a vacuum pump, an inlet, a sealing plate 32 movable between an inlet covering position and an inlet clearing position, a movable arm having a gripping means, the arm sealingly passing through a wall of the vacuum lock opposite the inlet for introducing an article into the lock through the inlet and preferably a seating 50 for receiving the introduced article. The seating 50 is mounted on a member 52 disconnectible from a well of the lock to permit withdrawal of the article from within the lock. The sealing plate is mounted on an arm which sealingly passes through a wall of the lock, a cam being mounted on the arm behind the plate so that rotating the arm presses the plate over the inlet. The movable arm comprises co-axial relative slidable members 14, 16, the member 16 carrying at its end within the lock a spring clamp 28 constituting the gripping means whereafter it can be introduced into the lock. A reciprocable rod 56 also passes sealingly through a wall of the lock, the inner end thereof being provided with an operating plate whereby, if the article in a bottle, a stopper may be forced into the neck thereof.
