Abstract

1360867 Pneumatic conveyers INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 28 Sept 1971 [28 Sept 1970] 45041/71 Heading B8A An arrangement for stopping carriers in a pneumatic tube dispatch system comprises a pneumatic conveyer tube 1, a sliding valve 4 acting as a stop and three branch pipes 6, 7, 8 to control the venting of the conveying medium. The pipes 6, 8 have respective valves 11, 10 to control the rate of venting and the pipe 7 has a valve 14 which is normally closed and is controlled by a carrier sensor 16 such that on arrival of a carrier at the stop 4 the valve 14 is opened whereby successive carriers will have slowed down before they abut the carrier at the stop. The pipes 6, 8 have further valves 12, 13 which are opened when the stop 4 is opened. A carrier sensor 17 controls a dispatch station (not shown) when the number of carriers stored against the stop extend back to said sensor and a further sensor 18 acts to open valve 12, upon detection of a carrier after the sensor 17 has been actuated, to prevent said carrier from reaching the sensor 17.
