Abstract
1,182,139. Pneumatic conveyers. G. BOULADON. 21 Aug., 1967 [24 Aug., 1966], No. 38349/67. Heading B8A. [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A system for the pneumatic conveyance of a unit 2 comprises a propulsion tube 1 longitudinally divided at 3 into an upper segment 4 along which the unit 2 moves and a lower segment 5 which is divided into chambers 6 n , &c. which communicate with the upper segment 4 via valves 17, reversible fans 9 n , 10 n &c. in each chamber 6 n delivering pressurized air upstream and a vacuum downstream, of the unit 2 to facilitate movement thereof. A detector 18 n , of contact or proximity type is associated with each chamber 6 n and when operated by a unit 2 causes the fans in the next downstream chamber 6 n+1 to reverse from vacuum to pressure air supply as the unit passes over that chamber. The fans may have reversible motors or blade pitches. The valves 17 over any one chamber 6 n &c. open to permit air to pass from the chamber to the upper segment 4, when the pressure in segment 4 is lower than that in the chamber, but above a reference pressure and open to pass air from the segment 4 to the chamber 6 n when the pressure in the segment is above that in the chamber. However, if the pressure in the upper segment is below the reference value, the valve closes. A plurality of detectors 18 n may be associated with each chamber whereupon the speed of the unit 2 can be determined and the fan control may be automatically advanced so that the pressure in a chamber downstream of the one adjacent the chamber containing the detector is conditioned. The tube 1 is divided by doors 25, 26 into sections each of which may have a unit 2 running therethrough. To facilitate movement of a unit 2 in either direction along the tube 1, remotely operated reversible switches 19 n &c. are coupled in circuit between the detector and the fans so that the fans in chambers to either side of the chamber associated with the detector may be controlled by the detector.
