Abstract

1,008,436. Pneumatic dispatch apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 4, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 39168/63. Heading B8A. In a separating device for the carriers of a pneumatic tube system, a pair of conveyer tube branches 5, 6 on opposite sides of a valve flap 7 in the tube 1 are connected alternately to pressure and suction sources whereby the leading carrier of a train is first drawn by suction as at 10 through branch 5 to a position between the branch 5 and valve 7 and is then separated and blown through the valve 7 to a position beyond the branch 6 by pressure applied as at 12 through the branch 5 and suction applied at the branch 6. The branches 5, 6 may be connected to the opposite sides of a reversible blower G. The speed of approach of the carrier train is reduced by permitting the escape of air from the main line 1 through a third branch 2 which is provided with controllable throttle 4a and a non-return valve 3. A controllable throttle valve may also be provided in the branch 5. A contact 9 detects the presence of a carrier in front of the valve 7 and controls the reversal of the blower G. A timing switch (not shown) cancels the reversal to dispatch the carrier through a flap, valve 8. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the branch 2 and an additional branch beyond the valve 8 are connected to atmosphere or to a separate blower via throttle valves to control the braking.
