Abstract
1,179,551. Housing animals. MICROFLOW Ltd. 31 Jan., 1967 [3 Nov., 1965], No. 46677/65. Heading A1M. A structure for housing animals on which infective tests are to be carried out is adapted (a) to prevent accidental infection from entering the structure or (b) to prevent deliberately introduced infection from contaminating the atmosphere outside the structure. The structure has a number of compartments 4 each of which has a front wall in the form of a grille 18 through which air can enter or leave the compartment. All the compartments communicate with a duct 16 which in turn communicates with the external aid by way of filtering means 8, 12, 14, 15, the air flow being effected by a fan 10. The direction of air flow and position of the filters with respect to the fan can be adjusted so that either (a) the incoming air is filtered and the compartments 4 are maintained above atmospheric pressure (Fig. 1) or (b) the outgoing air is filtered and the compartments are maintained below atmospheric pressure (Fig. 3, not shown). In Figs. 1 and 3 the compartments are in a stack constituting a mobile self-contained structure. In Fig. 2 (not shown) separate compartments are connected to different points in a filtered-air pipe line. The compartments may be air conditioned and illuminated.
