Abstract
935,323. Travelling wave tubes. CSFCOMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. March 27, 1962 [April 4, 1961], No. 11584/62. Class 39 (1). A travelling wave tube is combined with a periodic magnetic focusing system comprising an annular permanent magnet 5 surrounding a first portion of the envelope housing the gun and a series of annular permanent magnets 6 of alternately opposite polarities surrounding a second portion of the envelope housing the delay line, wherein magnetic shunts 9 are disposed on the first and third permanent magnets of the series counting from the gun. A magnetic shunt may also be connected to the 5th magnet. The shunts may be magnetic rings on two pairs of polepieces or two rings bridging the two sets of polepieces. In this way the same periodic amplitude of the magnetic field is obtained along the entire length of the delay line, usually a helix. When the magnetic shunts are two rings they may be of nickel or of an alloy.
