Abstract

666,907. Cathode-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 17; 1949 [May 21, 1948], No. 13137/49. Class 39 (i). A beam centring device comprises two magnet rings, at least one of which is split radially, a straight uniform field being produced across each ring-shaped area. A sleeve 7, Fig. 2, on the tube neck of a television receiving tube carries the focusing electromagnet 8, which may incorporate a permanent magnet, and a member 9 supporting the electrostatic or electromagnetic deflecting members. Ring magnets 12, 13 of round or rectangular cross-section have their free ends bent into a slot 11 in a sleeve 10 which is rotatably arranged on a spacing member 16. Magnet 13 is cemented in the groove 17 and produces a transverse field which is equal and opposite to that produced by the slidable magnet 12 when shunted by the polepiece 15, carried by the magnet 8. The magnet material may be an alloy of copper, nickel and cobalt, copper nickel and iron or of silver manganese and aluminium. In another form, a metal non- magnetic sleeve 18, Fig. 4, provided with operating lugs 23, is rotatably and slidably mounted on the magnetic shunt 15. The solid or split ring magnet 22 is soldered or cemented within the sleeve and the ring magnet 21 is rotatably and slidably mounted on the sleeve 18 which has registering protuberances 19 adapted to engage with similar protuberances on the magnet 21. In a further form, a magnet ring 27, Fig. 8, is cemented to a sleeve 28 and is arranged concentrically within a rotatable magnet ring 29 having adjusting tabs 30.
