Abstract
670,021. Cathode-ray tubes. COURT, P. R. J., and PYE, Ltd. Feb. 20, 1950 [Feb. 18, 1949], No. 4446/49. Class 39 (i). [Also in Group XXXV] A beam centring device comprises two annular permanent magnets, each magnetized across its diameter, which are independently rotatable and are arranged adjacent each other and concentrically on the neck of the cathode-ray tube. Ring magnets 1, 2 having lugs 1a, 2a are spaced by an insulating ring and from the focusing magnet 3 by three non-magnetic, preferably insulating, rings, the middle one of which is corrugated. Clips 10a, screwed to the magnet 3, and having ends 10b bent over a further insulating ring, engage in slots in the insulating rings to permit rotation of the magnets 1a, 2a only. In another form, each ring magnet may comprise two half-rings having closely-spaced ends and mounted on a non-magnetic ring having lugs to facilitate rotation on the tube neck. Non-magnetic rings may space the magnets from the focusing magnet and also from the deflecting coils. The magnets may be rotatable around a grooved cylinder mounted at that end of the deflection coils nearer the conical part of the tube, whereby interception of the beam by the tube can be reduced. The magnets may carry windings separately and variably energized in opposition to the field produced by the magnets when arranged at right angles to each other. Electrostatic deflection and focusing may be used.
