Abstract

980,119. Travelling wave tubes. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT m.b.H. Feb. 6, 1963 [Feb. 23, 1962], No. 4826/63. Heading H1D. A periodic focusing arrangement, e.g. for travelling wave tubes, comprises a plurality of annular magnets 1, Fig. 1, arranged coaxially in relation to one another and separated by ferromagnetic polepieces 2 of alternate polarity, wherein the polepieces of like polarity are connected together by at least one ferromagnetic yoke 4. The annular magnets may be permanent magnets or electromagnets, and each polepiece has at least one web 3 for contacting the yoke. For feeding in high-frequency oscillations, Fig. 3, a resonant cavity 31 is sandwiched between a polepiece 37 and a radially magnetized element 32 provided with a polepiece 39 which thereby minimises distortions of the magnetic field due to the presence of the cavity resonator 31. For further influencing the focusing field, an adjustable magnetic shunt 33 is provided adjacent magnet 32.
