Abstract
935,163. Travelling-wave tubes. CSFCOMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Oct. 5, 1961 [Oct. 14, 1960], No. 35862/61. Class 39 (1). An " O " type travelling-wave tube comprises an electron gun 22 located in a first, shorter portion of a vacuum-tight cylindrical envelope 21, a delay line 23 located in a second, longer portion of the tube envelope, and two cylindrical permanent magnets 24, 25 disposed around the two portions of the envelope with like poles adjacent (e.g. S-S or N-N) so that a magnetic field of higher intensity is produced in the first portion than that produced in the second portion. A field straightener 26 may be disposed between the magnets and the tube envelope, and soft iron pole-pieces 27, 28, 29 preferably provided with the intermediate polepiece 27 having an enlarged portion 31 near the tube envelope which, with an apertured iron disc 30 lying between the gun and the delay line, ensures a distinct boundary to the magnetic field in the vicinity of the field inversion. Centring screws 32 may be provided to align the tube within the magnet structure.
