Abstract
846,245. Travelling-wave tubes. HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO. Aug. 14, 1958 [Sept. 30, 1957], No. 26221/58. Class 39(1), A travelling-wave tube with a slow-wave structure forming interconnected interaction cells has a ferrite rod 46, parallel to the axis of the tube, disposed in each of the interaction cells 17 to provide non-reciprocal attenuation. The ferrite rods are biased by the longitudinal focusing field of the magnet 44. Distortion of the magnetic fields is prevented by compensating soft iron slabs or permanent magnets 50, Fig. 4, associated with each interaction cell and disposed diametrically opposite the ferrite rod. Soft iron slabs may be embedded in the wall of the slow-wave structure. Drift tubes 21 are provided in the vanes 14 of the structure to confine interaction between the beam and the travelling waves to the centres of the interaction cells.
