Abstract

989,309. Waveguide isolators. AIRTRON Inc. March 18, 1963 [March 19, 1962], No. 10584/63. Heading H1W. An isolator comprises gyromagnetic elements 42, 44, of e.g. nickel ferrite aluminate, arranged opposite the edges of the ridge 46 of a singleridge waveguide 12. The elements 42, 44 are in the form of strips and one or more magnets 18 are arranged each with poles opposite the strips. A plate 48 of magnetic material is arranged within the ridge to decrease the reluctance of the magnetic path between the elements. Cooling means, e.g. conduits 28, are arranged on the surface of the waveguide near the elements 42, 44. The ends of the isolator are connected to coaxial lines through doorknob transformers arranged on the broad wall of the waveguide with the door-knob connected to the ends of the ridge.
