An in-line filter has a tubular housing 21 designed for attachment to a fuel pump discharge hose 12 having a diameter substantially the same as the outside diameter of the housing, an annular pleated paper filter cartridge 26 being incorporated and having a metal closure cap 29 at one end and a paper, or other sealing ring at its other end. The filter may alternatively be interposed between the pump and the hose.
