978,065. Filters for liquids. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. Nov. 13, 1962, No. 42947/62. Heading B1D. A filter for use, e.g., in a branch line from a milking machine to a main vacuum-operated pipe line leading to a milk tank consists of four parts: an inlet housing 16 having an offcentre inclined inlet 24, an outlet housing 18, a resilient spider assembly 46 and a flat sheet filter element 38. The housings 16 and 18 are quickly assembled by engagement of lugs 20a on housing 18 with circumferentially-spaced parts 55, having cam-shaped upper surfaces, on housing 16. In the assembled condition shown, the filter is sealed from the exterior, and the filter element is clamped against a ring 57 on housing 16, by an annular gasket part 50 of spider 46. The spider also has ribs 48 which support the filter element, a flange 45 for providing further sealing with the outlet housing 18, and a shoulder 52 which locks the spider after it has been forced into position. Preferably both housings are transparent.
