Abstract

958,148. Valves. D. N. MANTON. Oct. 29, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38843/61. Heading F2V. [Also in Division B1] In a liquid filter comprising a helix mounted between inlet and outlet ports of a housing (see-Division B1) the spaces between the turns of the helix are adjustable so as to regulate the flow of liquid. The liquid flow is radial, preferably from the interior to the exterior of the helix. A housing 1 (Fig. 3) is provided with inlet and outlet ports 2, 3 respectively and hinged cover 8, and contains a compression spring 26 mounted at one end upon a ring integral with the housing and at the other end upon a plate 12. This plate is provided with projection 28 which slides in ring 27 of the housing and bears upon a cam 30 carried by spindle 29. Sealing ring 31 provides liquid-tight seal between spindle and housing. By turning formation 32, and thus spindle 29, and cam 30, the axial position of the projection 28, and thus the degree of extension of the spring may be altered. Concentric helices may be used.
