1393181 Valves PURDUE RESEARCH FOUNDATION 28 March 1972 [5 April 1971] 14350/72 Heading F2V [Also in Division B1] A rotary plug cock valve 13, which is designed for use with a filter assembly 11, comprises a tapered plug 57 within the body of which two separate passage systems are defined. The first, shown to be in its operative state, is delimited by inner and outer wall sections of the plug 39, 37, respectively, so providing an outer annular chamber 55 which is open to a right-hand lateral passage 19 and an inner chamber 50 which is open to a left-hand passage 19 (as shown by flow arrows), and forms a surge chamber with a relief valve 69. The second passage system, which is placed in the operative state by rotation of the plug through 90 degrees from the position shown, is defined by a tubular member 61 which extends across the plug and is sealed relative to the outer wall section 37, such tubular member being aligned with this valve lateral passages 19 (Fig. 5, not shown). Sealing rings 73 are provided in the housing around the lateral passages 19. Attachment of the valve 13 to the filter assembly 11 is by way of a hinged band 47 of U-shaped cross-section, the band engaging peripheral flanges on both the valve 13 and the assembly 11. With the valve in the operative state shown in Fig. 4, fluid supplied to outer chamber 55 passes to an outer channel 51 within the assembly. From the last-mentioned channel, the fluid passes through an annular filter 52 and into a central passage 49 wherefrom it flows into the inner chamber 50 and hence to the valve outlet 19. If the valve plug is now rotated through 90 degrees, the filter assembly 11 is by-passed and fluid flow between lateral ports 19 takes place solely through tubular member 61.
