Abstract
930,895. Latch handles. WILBEC PLASTICS Ltd. Jan. 26, 1962 [Jan. 27, 1961], No. 3249/61. Class 44. A latch handle fitting for attachment to a door comprises a mounting body 1 having a circular opening 6 which extends rearwardly to a rear recess 7, a handle piece 4 and a retaining member 16 therefor, the retaining member being accommodated in the body recess and being socketed for operating engagement with a latch spindle, the handle piece, which is at the front of the body, and the retaining member being secured together by a screw 25 passing through a portion of the handle piece from the front thereof and engaging into the retaining member including a cover piece 30 for concealing the head of the screw, the cover piece being adapted to be retained in position on the handle piece 4. As shown the cover piece is retained by the frictional engagement of peg portions 29 on the cover piece with holes in the handle piece. The retaining member has a recess which accommodates a coiled torsion spring 19, the ends of which are engaged respectively with the retaining member and the mounting body to return the handle piece to its normal position after use. Movement of the handle piece is limited by engagement of a projection (not shown), with portions of the mounting body. The handle piece can be fitted on the retaining member in two positions 180 degrees apart and the projection has alternative positions in which it can be positioned during assembly so that the fitting can be used on left- and right-hand doors.
