Abstract

1,220,187. Door handles. JAMES COLLINS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. 6 March, 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 13877/68. Heading E2A. In a door handle assembly including means limiting turning movement of the handle in a plate 10 and spring means for urging the handle to a normal position, the plate is provided with a detachable and reversible ring 36 providing a pocket for one end of a torsion spring 44 wound about the handle 16 and having ends 46, 48 engaged with the handle and with the plate, the handle carrying a washer 50 for co-operation with a stop 40 on the ring 36 and the spring being located between the plate 10 and the washer 50. As shown, the handle is seated in nylon bush 12 in the plate 10 and the ring 36 is provided with lugs which engage slots 32, 34 in the plate. The end 46 of the spring 44 engages a slot 24 in the handle shank 18 and the end 48 of the spring engages a slot 42 in the ring 36. The washer 50 is retained on the shank by a circlip 62 and is provided with a cut-out defining shoulders 58, 60 which abut the stop 40 in use of the handle. The handle is reversible for left and right hand use.
